How to get the perfect pre-wedding day spray tan

It’s your big day coming up and you have everything on track including your dress, your Makeup Artist and your Hair Stylist. With the unpredictable UK weather, you know that there is a slim chance that you will get a natural tan before your big day (unless you are jetting off!) and you dream of looking perfectly sun-kissed when you walk down the aisle. Booking a spray tan for your wedding can be daunting, especially if you have never had one before, so we are here to make the process smooth and easy for you.

Trial

Just as you would book a hair and makeup trial before your big day, a spray tan trial is just as important so that you can ‘test’ the tan and ensure that it is perfect for the event. We recommend booking the spray tan trial the day before your makeup trial so that when you have your makeup done, you will be the exact shade that you will be on your wedding day. This will make the process easier for your Makeup Artist too as they will be able to shade match you ready for the wedding. Also having your dress will help as you will know how much skin you are bearing and where on the body you may need extra contouring.
Spray tan trials are especially helpful if you have never had a spray tan before as you will learn more about the process and how this will work for your big day. You can book as many trials as you like on the run up to your big day as this is your time to experiment with shades and tones which will naturally compliment you and your dress. Why not get the bridal party involved and throw a girls night where you can all have your spray tan trials ready for the big day!

Prep

On the run up to your spray tan appointment, make sure that you are exfoliating and moisturising your skin every day for at least a week to ensure that your skin is silky smooth for your tan and that you have no other tan residue. With regards to hair removal, if you are waxing then make sure that you leave a 24-hour period between the waxing and your spray tan to ensure that your hair follicles have settled after the wax. Also, for the 24-hour period before your spray tan, ensure that you wear no moisturisers, deodorants, perfumes etc. and arrive to your appointment freshly washed and cleansed.
You will need to book your wedding day spray tan 2 days prior to the event to ensure that the tan settles into your skin and there will be no transfer onto the all-important dress. You will need to plan your other treatments around your spray tan as any manicures, pedicures, facials etc. will need to be carried out before your tanning appointment.

Aftercare

Leave your tan on for at least 8 hours (overnight works perfect for this) to ensure that your tan is fully developed. You want your skin to look its best so once you have washed off your tan - moisturise, moisturise, moisturise! If you need to shave after your spray tan, use an electric razor to stop a layer of your tan from stripping off which happens with regular razors.
On the important day of your wedding, you want to ensure that your tan doesn’t rub onto your dress so before you put your wedding dress on apply talcum powder to any areas which are tight to stop any sweat transferring onto your dress.
