What is Balayage?

Balayage is one of the trendiest hair colouring techniques which has become highly popular over the last couple of years.

Balayage is a French word meaning “sweeping” or “painting” and this is shown through its effective techniques.
The technique uses a freehand colouring technique to apply the highlights rather than using the traditional technique of foils or a cap. This technique gives a softer, more natural effect to the hair as it leaves a gradual transition between shades. This unique style can be suited to anyone as every Balayage is different.

Balayage is so popular due to its low maintenance as the regrowth is very natural and does not need regular hair appointments.

There is no ‘harsh’ regrowth line with Balayage meaning that as your hair grows, the colour still looks natural. You can last up to 3-4 months without having your hair recoloured, however you may need a hairdresser to apply a toner or a treatment to freshen up the colour.

Balayage can be done in any shade and is best applied on natural hair however can also be applied on previously coloured hair too. The shade that you want to achieve with Balayage will all depend on your current hair colour and how light you would like to go. Your Hairdresser will be able to help and advise you with this.

Balayage works on all hair lengths (apart from short pixie styles) and all hair types, so anybody can achieve this sophisticated, sun-kissed look.

Balayage is often seen on the Red Carpet and loved by celebrities such as Rosie Huntington-Whitely, Chrissie Teigan, Miranda Kerr and Jessica Alba due to its effortless yet classic style.
